Math Olympiad is an extra curricular activity that meets once every other week. Fourth and fifth graders are involved in discussing and working on problem solving techniques and strategies. The group meets from November to May with a district math competition as a culminating activity. The top three fourth and fifth grade problem solvers earn the right to represent Runyon at this competition. Some homework is involved with this activity. The purpose of the club is to provide a math enrichment opportunity for fourth and fifth grade students who love math and would enjoy additional challenge in problem solving.
The Math Olympiad Club will practice Math Problem Solving and prepare for the Math Olympiad Competitions. The top three fourth and top three fifth grade students will be chosen to attend the Littleton District Math Olympiad competition which is held early in May. We will also place an alternate at each grade level to attend the District competition should one of the three students be unable to attend.
Runyon's Math Olympiad Club is sponsored by Mrs. Wendy Erickson. The meetings will be held the first and third Tuesday of the month after schol from 3:10 to 4:30 p.m. in her room beginning November 1st. Students must plan to attend every meeting. Space is limited to the first fifteen fourth grade students and the first fifteen fifth grade students who return a permission slip.
Thank you so much for your interest and support!
