Welcome to the Damon Runyon Art page!

In the 2008-09 school year our 1st – 5th grade students will receive art instruction for 45 minutes twice every six days. Kindergarten receives art instruction for 30 minutes, once every six days. Following the approved LPS Visual Arts Curriculum, we cover a variety of Art Principles, Elements and History. Our featured artists this year are Henri Rousseau, Vincent Van Gogh and Georges Seurat.  We will be integrating with the other core disciplines through the themes of Book Illustrators, Autumn, the Rainforest, Aboriginal Culture, Birds, Other Things with Wings, and Cats and Dogs.

The students have hands-on experience with a variety of media and techniques. Art is displayed on a monthly basis in the school, with each student's work showcased at least once a year. There are about four art shows yearly in outside venues, allowing some children's art to be seen by a larger audience.Feel free to visit the Runyon Art Studio, located in the portable unit, at any time. Volunteers are always needed on a one-time or ongoing basis!

Please call if you have any concerns, questions or comments.

 Art Start

Runyon is fortunate to have an Art Start program to supplement the regular Art Program. Art Start is an Art Appreciation program which utilizes parent volunteers who present lessons featuring certain artists. The parent then leads the class in a related project. Art Start lessons are usually about once a month. For more information please call the Art Start Coordinator, Joni Lieb.
