Welcome to Second Grade

It is our intent to provide a positive, caring, and challenging environment which is conducive to learning. We strongly believe in providing the children with a sound foundation of academic skills as well as a working knowledge of problem solving, organization, and study skills that they will be using for the rest of their lives. We encourage them to become independent thinkers and workers. We expect the children to complete their work in a timely and neat manner. We strive to instill in the children a positive self image. We will work on developing positive character. It is expected that the students respect each other and all people in our school community. We encourage the children to be familiar with the rules of our school. We try to help them find ways to solve their own problems and to gain an understanding of the logical consequences of their actions. Student progress is continually evaluated based on the children's performance during individual, small, and large group instruction. The district curriculum, which is based on the Colorado State Standards, provides a framework for the students' educational program (see Second Grade Curriculum Highlights at the bottom of the Second Grade web page).
