 Third Grade

Welcome

We believe that the combined efforts of parents and teachers will result in greater student self-esteem and performance. We strive to promote an atmosphere where children and adults respect each other’s feelings and needs. Through group interaction processes, we encourage children to respect the rights of others. Through open communication between parents, students and teachers, we establish high standards for both behavior and learning. As teachers, we encourage our students and parents to familiarize themselves with the rules of Damon Runyon Elementary. We try to help children find ways to solve their own problems through small group discussions, individual conferences and, when necessary, parent-teacher-student conferences. Through these processes, children can be guided toward better decision-making skills and will gain a more complete understanding of the logical consequences of their actions.

Third Grade has  three 50 minute blocks of Literacy in the morning, back to back. Mrs. Csikos and Ms. Z will both teach reading during each rotation. Mrs. Moss will teach Writing to all 3rd graders.

We use the Everyday Mathematics curriculum. This curriculum is organized into six mathematical content strands that cover a number of skills and concepts. Each grade level builds on and extends concept understanding so that your children will be exposed over and over to both old and new concepts. This spiraling curriculum will foster a greater development of mathematical understanding and knowledge. We believe that this curriculum will challenge students at all levels and spark a greater love and interest in mathematics.
