Dear Parents,
First I want to thank all of you who attended the PTO meeting last month. Our presenter, Mike Harris, a senior investigator with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, spoke about internet safety. Mr. Harris and his wife Cassandra work as a team on internet investigations and are dedicated to protecting your children from predators on the internet. We will follow-up his presentation by arranging for him to speak with students as well as faculty. We will inform you of the dates/times once they are confirmed.
At Runyon we educate all our students about internet safety using specific lessons for each grade level and following up with an assessment of student knowledge and understanding. We also have a number of resources available on our Runyon website. Simply click on the “For Parent” icon and then click on “Cybersafety for Parents and Students”. There you will find 15 different links to gather more information on how to keep your children safe. There is also an additional link to information about cyber bullying. I would encourage you to visit these sites and become more informed and then help us educate your children. In a day and age when information is more conveniently available than ever before, it is imperative that we all understand the opportunities as well as the dangers associated with children’s frequent use of internet technology.
Next Tuesday, the 11th at 9:30, we will present our annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. This is certainly one of the most memorable activities of the school year. I know the majority of you cannot attend but certainly if you can work this into your schedule you would find it well worth the time. I especially invite and encourage any veterans to attend. And by the way, while you’re all here please feel free to walk the halls and check out the students’ work.
It’s been a very, very busy year thus far. Sometimes when we get busy and preoccupied with events and activities we can forget to attend to the most important aspects of the job, and of course that would be to meet the educational needs of your children, our students. I am always impressed with the commitment and dedication of our teachers as they strive to meet student needs. They give unselfishly of their time and talents to go the extra mile. It’s a privilege to work with them.
As always, if you have questions and/or concerns, please call.
